The War Remnants Museum Saigon, in my book, takes the number 1 spot in Saigon tourist attractions. If anything else, war images and in this case Vietnam War pictures, are not something you’ll come across everyday. When you talk about Vietnam, the first few words that roll out of your tongue have to be conical hats, Halong Bay and the Vietnam War. And the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon, will be the best place to see the Vietnam War pictures, albeit via explicit images.

This is the ground level where you’ll see pictures of the infamous My Lai Massacre. Also on display are images and even preserved fetus of Vietnam children affected by Agent Orange and Napalm used by the Americans during the Vietnam War.

On the other side of the War Remnants Museum, there’s a mock up of the notorious ‘Tiger Cages’ used to house prisoners on Con Son Island and a guillotine used by the French.

The War Remnants Museum is located at 28 Vo Van Tan Street. See how to get to War Remnants Museum.

Great pictures. I agree—this is THE #1 place to visit in Saigon. It’s an emotionally and educationally profound experience.
Thank you Brook for your compliment.
Yeah, always my 1st mention whenever people ask me what to see in Saigon. But can be quite draining after the visit.
Nice article and pics. I’ve been there and you’ve made a good presentation of what’s in the War Remnants Museum. I like the rest of your blog as well. It’s the first blog that’s made me want to go back to Saigon.
Having said that, I think as a museum, the War Remnants Museum is an international disgrace. It doesn’t remotely shed light on the nature of the conflict but rather is a propaganda piece against (Communist) Vietnam’s enemies. The current government exploits the horrors of the war to rationalize their rule over the people.
You can buy fake dog tags of slain U.S. soldiers in the gift shop. That’s about as tasteless as selling fake Star of David arm bands at a Holocaust museum. Truly shameful.
I’ve been to many other Vietnam War memorials in Vietnam, including My Lai, Khe Sanh, and the “Hanoi Hilton”. They are the same–propaganda pieces. It’s really quite sad because they could be used in an un-political way to shed light on the conflict and show respect for the people who lost their lives there.
Thank you G for your very kind compliment
Not saying that I agree with the way this War Remnants Museum is set up. But it’s quite natural that the government will want to put themselves and the country in a better position. Plus if you look back at the history, most will agree that it was quite needless for US to get into the country.
