Trung Nguyen Cafe 001

This is my favorite Trung Nguyen cafe in Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon. I kept the receipt thinking it’ll have the address printed but turned out it’s not there. Anyway, this Trung Nguyen Cafe is easy to find- it’s just behind the Diamond Shopping Centre. If you don’t know where the Diamond Shopping Centre is, it’s behind the Notre Dame Cathedral. And if you still have no idea where I’m talking about, see ‘How to get to Notre Dame Cathedral:-)

Now, back to Trung Nguyen Cafe. This is the outdoor area. They used to have a mini stage in the middle showcasing all the Trung Nguyen coffee and stuffs. But it has now make way for more tables.

This is the indoor air conditioned area which unfortunately takes up only about 25% of the total space. Not the best idea given Saigon’s hot weather.

I ordered the ca phe sua da which is iced coffee with milk. Cost: 29,000vnd (about US$1.50)
Tip: In my virtual object of Trung Nguyen Coffee, you’ll see a number ’1′ on the package. Trung Nguyen has a series that goes from number 1 to number 5 in which each number represent the different types of coffee beans being packed. In Trung Nguyen cafe, you can order all the different 5 numbers to try. When you find one that you like, you can then decide on the right number (or type of coffee beans) to buy.

After reading this post, I’m going to visit this Trung Nguyen location AND go to Buon Me Thuot for several days. From the picture, it looks like a Vietnamese version of Tuscany.

Vietnam720

Hey ‘Jason’, great meeting you the other day :-)

Compare Buon Me Thuot to Sapa, I’d still encourage you to make a trip up to enjoy the scenary and see the minorites in Sapa.

Brigitte

Thanks for the tip about Trung Nguyen Cafe, very helpful.
I love Ca Phe Sua Da. One thing is that I heard ice can make you have stomach ache ? so don’t know if I can drink something with ice, the price comes about about $1.50 I’m sure it’s cheaper at other local cafes ? but still less than Allez Boo. I’m going to VN next month.

Vietnam720

Dear Brigitte, that’s a difficult question to answer.

On my very 1st trip to Vietnam, I had ice like nobody’s business and all was fine. Now that I’ve been in Vietnam for 4 years, I get that occasional stomach upset due to unclean food and ice. My advice is that since it’s a holiday, be a little bit more brave. Just go with your instint :-)

Paul

I was told not to accept crushed ice in my drink. I once saw this: A young guy wielding a metal club, crushing a big block of ice on the pavement. He packed the crushed ice in a bag and handed to a runner to sell to local shops.

Vietnam720

If the ice is being washed before serving, it’ll be ok. Hopefully :-)

Hi there,

Trung Nguyen Cofffee have quietly made its way to Singapore. Haven’t got the chance to visit the outlet at Liang Court (where the former Daimaru Store was years ago). Shall post an update if I were to visit the outlet one of the days.

I hope they don’t ‘customise’ the coffee to local tase. Will be a pity.

amhuirnin

whats the operating hours of this cafe? thanks!

Vietnam720

I think like most cafes in Vietnam, it should be around 7am to 11pm.

Lexi

Do they sell weasel poo coffee at this location or do you know where to get the real chon coffee?

Vietnam720

Dear Lexi, don’t quote me: but I’m 80% sure Trung Nguyen has weasel poo coffee.

If not, I’m 100% sure (I’ve seen it) that Ben Thanh Market has those poo coffee :)

Adam

If any Europeans get back from their travels in Vietnam with a hankering for Trung Nguyen coffee, then look no further! We have just started selling Creatives 1 – 5, at better prices than anywhere else. Come and visit us at:

Thanks!

Den Andri

Well, okay… I’ll visit this place.. thanks

The last I saw 3 months back the giant cup (1st shot in this post) at the entrance was no longer there. I sure hope they bring it back.
