Collection of ‘fisheye’ shots of Cholon, Binh Tay Market, of Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon…
If you miss the Saigon Ben Thanh Market when in Nha Trang, go to Dam Market, or Cho Dam in Vietnamese. It is smaller and has lesser variety than the former but still makes for a good place to buy Vietnam gifts to bring home. The surrounding open air wet market and food stalls will add more reasons to check out the Dam Market. And because it’s used mainly by the locals, this is 1 spot in Nha Trang to catch the daily lives of the Vietnamese people…
This post on Phu Quoc Island is to share with you my thoughts and recommendations on Vietnam’s premiere beach destination. It is also a summary of the few articles I wrote about Phu Quoc with links to the individual posts. Summarizing them into points, the 10 things you should know about Phu Quoc are:
Duong Dong Market is just right across the old bridge in central Phu Quoc or, to be exact, located in Duong Dong Town. With no tarmac road and hundreds of people and motorbikes packing the narrow path, it’s gonna be quite a dusty affair. But this is Vietnam. If you want to get into the real life of the Vietnamese people, see ladies with conical hats sitting on the floor selling vegetables and hawkers shouting to get attention to their stalls, go to this Duong Dong Market. You won’t be disappointed…
The Phu Quoc Night Market opens daily from 6pm till about midnight. This is where you can get inexpensive Phu Quoc souvenirs, ‘I love Phu Quoc’ t-shirts, sandals and accessories, especially Phu Quoc Pearls. Of course, seafood is the main reason one goes to the Phu Quoc Night Market. I didn’t dine there but a search on the internet consistently says the seafood there are ‘cheap and good’. Do note that vegetarian options are also available…
Cai Rang Floating Market is the biggest floating market in the Mekong Delta. You will love everything about it: the sight, sound and even taste – sip Vietnamese coffee while onboard to make the experience more authentic. Hopefully my pictures below of the Cai Rang Floating Market can do this place justice…
Last post of a 3 parts series on the Ben Thanh Market…
Part 2 (of 3 parts) on Ben Thanh Market. This post is on the food and the wet market scene…
These pictures of Ben Thanh Market are fresh from the oven, taken in March 2010. Although I can’t possibly photograph every single item on sale at Saigon’s number 1 attraction, I hope they give you a good idea of what’s available at Ben Thanh Market. I’m breaking them down into 3 parts: Part 1 (this post) is on the clothes, Part 2 is on the food and wet market and Part 3 is on the handbags and accessories….
This is the last post on the Cholon series closing with the food and the general scene…
