Got invited to An Vien Restaurant in Saigon recently by a lovely family from Singapore. Thanks to them, I can, for a change, depart from my US$1 or US$2 Vietnamese food recommendation and show you how an upscale restaurant in Saigon is like. While, to me only, this is what I’ll call ‘the finer things in life money can buy’, the truth is that all the 7 delicious dishes below came only to US$56. You will find An Vien Restaurant Saigon worthy of your visit given the set up and the reasonable prices…
This post on Carl’s Jr Vietnam is to share with you my experience with the new kids on Saigon’s fast food chain block…
You won’t find this Rach Gia Bun Rieu in your travel guidebook. I came across it by chance too. What happened was that I rode 130km from Can Tho and reached Rach Gia at 3pm+. Checked into this US$5.50 hotel and rushed out looking for food. While the trick is to always look for a busy restaurant, I thought this was going to be difficult given it was way pass meal time at 3pm+. Hence I was really surprise and glad to chance upon this small shop streaming with customers…
The Phu Quoc Night Market opens daily from 6pm till about midnight. This is where you can get inexpensive Phu Quoc souvenirs, ‘I love Phu Quoc’ t-shirts, sandals and accessories, especially Phu Quoc Pearls. Of course, seafood is the main reason one goes to the Phu Quoc Night Market. I didn’t dine there but a search on the internet consistently says the seafood there are ‘cheap and good’. Do note that vegetarian options are also available…
Recommending a restaurant in Phu Quoc at the Duong Dong Town with cheap but nice food- the Le Giang Restaurant…
When I wrote my first very own food blog, I already declared to you guys that I’m no gourmet or foodie. This means there will be no technical terms on the stock, what ingredients are used and how much punch every bite of the meat produces. I can only tell you that the fish porridge in this shop at Saigon’s District 7 is VERY NICE…
Vincom Center is the newest Saigon shopping center and is conveniently located in between the Notre Dame Cathedral and Saigon Opera House. It has 3 basements and 5 levels to make for more than 250 shops altogether….
Right opposite the ‘tin man’ statue, this has long been a traveler’s favorite thanks to a good blend of local and international food at very reasonable prices. It’s the closest thing to a riverfront bar by night with a few tables spilling onto the street…
I must give credit to my friend Bennett from Good Morning Vietnam for this post on Kim Loan Restaurant in Mui Ne. He wrote so many good things about Kim Loan Restaurant that I had to check it out during my recent trip to Mui Ne. And I have to agree on most of his review. The 2 points that I can’t agree are because I didn’t get to experience them…
One of the best things about Mui Ne, arguably Vietnam’s best beach resort destination, is this: it is laid out in a long strip along a main street, with mainly the resort and hotels on one side (along the beach) and bars, restaurants and shops on the other. This means it’s very easy to move around. More importantly, when it comes to food, accommodation and entertainment in Mui Ne, you are spoiled for choice with this 10km stretch…
