Following a recommendation from the Lonely Planet, I went to dine at the Mekong Restaurant in Can Tho during a recent trip.
This is what’s written in the guidebook:
‘Right opposite the ‘tin man’ statue, this has long been a traveler’s favorite thanks to a good blend of local and international food at very reasonable prices. It’s the closest thing to a riverfront bar by night with a few tables spilling onto the street’.
The ‘tin man’ mentioned above refers to the Ho Chi Minh statue in the middle of the Can Tho Park. This means the Mekong Restaurant is very easy to find. Just ask around for ‘Uncle Ho’

What I like most are these mirrors that double up as a menu, especially the Chinese wordings. It’s pretty rare in Vietnam.

Some of the food available in the Mekong Restaurant. As you can see, the prices are quite reasonable.

Only US$1.30 for this plate of fried tofu with vegetables. Comes with a plate of rice also.

US$0.70 for my favorite Vietnam beer – the almighty Saigon Beer.

Unfortunately this US$0.70 Vietnamese coffee was lousy when I was there.

This Cantonese fried rice was good and cheap at only US$1.20.

Cost only US$0.40 to have a sunny-side-up. I ordered 2 at a go.
