Illy Vietnam 05

Went to Illy at 38 Ly Tu Trong Street, District 1 (HCMC, Saigon) for a business meeting and returned with this very brief personal review of Illy Vietnam.

I first asked the waiter if they serve Vietnamese coffee or not (quite a stupid question) and he said no. Then I asked him to recommend one from Illy that’s closest in taste to Vietnam coffee and he got me Freddo Shakerat which is shown below. Cost me a good 74,000vnd and nowhere near my faithful Trung Nguyen coffee satisfaction.

This will have to be the best thing I like about Illy- quietness rarely found in Saigon’s cafes. The friend whom I was meeting there is a regular and she said this Illy Cafe in Saigon is seldom filled. My guess is maybe the price, averaging about 60,000vnd a shot of the famous Italian coffee, is the culprit that’s causing the empty seats here. But good place to give your ears some rest from those bikes and car honks once in a while.

Love this poster found near the door.

Fanciful coffee making machine flown in all the way from Italy. We should give them credits for the effort.
