The inspiration for this ‘How-To-Get-To’ post came from a Vietnam720 reader. She wrote telling me how she visited Mon Hue Restaurant 3 days in a row during her Saigon tour after reading my recommendation.
In this post, I’m gonna direct you to the nearest Mon Hue Restaurant from Saigon backpacker’s hostel area. It should take you less than 15mins to walk there.
We’ll start from Allez Boo. Cross the road and head for the park.

Your 1st landmark is the light blue ‘Lucky Star’ building.

After crossing the park, you’ll see a cool 1970s white building named ‘Gaya’ opposite ‘Lucky Star’. Take that road in between.

At the end of the road, make a left turn. Sidetrack: the checkered black and white building is Zen Plaza. Small Saigon shopping center with a supermarket on the basement.

After making the left turn, Mon Hue Restaurant is only 100m down the road. You’ll see the road sign “Nguyen Trai’ and this Mon Hue is on 98 Nguyen Trai Street.

Thanks Ben, I found this restaurant using your entry and it was a good lunch experience!
My friends and I found the dishes appetising and well-prepared. The dishes were on the slightly more spicy side so be prepared!
Thanks for the recommendations!
It’s so cool and encouraging to get comments from people confirming your recommendations.
Thank u CK. I appreciate this.
I like the rice with clams and those rice cakes with deep fried pork lard! Thanks for bringing me there!
Hehe, those 2 are my all time favorite from Mon Hue
Hi All,
Just to add that a new small Mon Hue restaurant just opened next (back of Ben Thanh Mkt). So for those who are in this area can pop by to try the wonderful food.
Cheers!!..

Happy Birthday Nic! And thanks for being a fan!
Do Hanoi for your next trip. Hanoi is prettier than Saigon. Sad but true.
Thanks Ben!
Yeah.. that was my original intention – had gotten the round trip tiks super cheap at S$40 only.. from 2 Sep to 14 Sep, planned from HCM to Hanoi but unfortunately could only get here on 8 Sep, hence..
Anyway it’s been a good 1st trip for me, and I will definitely do Hanoi for my next foray into VN.. And I will be following up on the VN threads onwards..
Thanks for the chat and we’ll talk more when I get back to SG..
Nite all…

Help me tell your friends about Vietnam720 eh?
Hello! I found your website to be the most superbly helpful website ever! But, where can i find halal or local halal food? My family are going there in 2 weeks and i need your help with this, so that me and my family will surely enjoy our trip there! Especially since we are using ur guide in this website!
Thank you in advance!
Alo Nadhirah, thank u for being a fan!
If you are referring to halal food in HCMC, Saigon, then it’s the stretch opposite the Sheraton Hotel. I was there yesterday and counted 4 restaurants (had always thought there are only 1).
Thank u for the fast reply. My apologies for not telling u the full details.
So, for halal food, i can find it only there? Because i am staying in Hoang Hai Long Hotel. I am afraid that it is too far because i am with my family and during dinner, we might be already be tired and just want to have dinner and quickly have some rest before going back to the hotel.
Also, how is the weather like? Since its December(cold season), how cold it will be? Same like in Tropical Countries such as Singapore?
Sorry for asking too much. Me and my family are going on a vacation without a tour guide for the first time and we just want to plan properly to enjoy our trip there.
Alo Nad, there are also a few restaurants in the backpackers’ area serving halal food. Other than these 2 areas, the rest are quite scattered and rare I must add. Sorry
Not cold in Dec. Just chill. Similar to Singapore, maybe just 1 degree cooler
Don’t worry about the questions. Keep them coming
