While on a Vietnam travel and when in Saigon, do not miss the Ben Thanh Market. It has almost everything you’ll want in Vietnam: conical hats, souvenir, Vietnamese food, shoes, bags, coffee Vietnam…
And it’s easy to find your way there. So here’s ‘how to get to Ben Thanh Market’ from the travel backpacker area of Pham Ngu Lao Street.

How to get to Ben Thanh Market
Make your way to Crazy Buffalo at De Tham Street. You can’t miss this giant landmark at the Saigon backpackers area which is at the cross road junction of De Tham Street and Bui Vien Street. Then, with Crazy Buffalo behind you, walk up towards the end of De Tham Street where the yellow arrow is pointing. About 150m.

Keep walking towards the end of De Tham Street where you’ll see the Highland Coffee. Yellow arrow marks the end of the road.

What is Crazy Buffalo? I’m really curious!
Hi Eric, Crazy Buffalo is the name of a pub
Hi 720
can you please tell me the name of the hotel above Highlands Coffee in De Tham St?
Thanks
It’s the Liberty Hotel. I think it’s Liberty 3
Hey Vietnam 720!!
Incredible blog/sites! Absolutely helpful..
Which hostel / hotel u think is nearer to Ben Thanh market?
a) Duc vuong – Bui Vien St
b) Asian Ruby Hotel 2 – 28 Truong Dinh Street, Ben Thanh Ward
Which is better; regards to accesibility, comfortable and local culture?
many thanks
Well, I read your website, we actually can take the bus # 152 to the backpakers area. Can please tell roughly how long the journey and also where to alight? is that the final stop?
So, if i were to alight at Pham Ngou Luo street, is that within walking distance to my hotel i.e Asian ruby hotel 2 at Truong Dinh Street? Many thanks
Hi Alisha,
1) The bus journey from Tan Son Nhat Airport to Pham Ngu Lao street is between 30mins to 45mins. Tell the driver you to inform you when you are at Pham Ngu Lao street. To play safe, keep asking passenger every now and then if it’s already there or not
.
2) It’s about 1km to Asian Ruby Hotel 2 from the bus stop at Pham Ngu Lao.
3) In terms of distance, Asian is nearer to Ben Thanh Market than Duc Vuong.
4) Have not been to either so can’t give you my take on the hotel itself.
5) But in terms of area, I’ll chose the backpacker’s haunt anytime of the day vs the city.
Dear Vietnam 72!
Thanks for your quick replied. Highly appreciate it!
By the way, do you know by chance, any bus from the airport will go direct to the Ben Thanh Market? Or you suggest, just hop into a taxi. I heard alot of unpleasant encountered with taxis in HCM..so i m abit worried..Many thanks
Dear Alisha, it’s Vietnam720, not 72
I think there’s only 1 bus at the airport and that 152 don’t stop at Ben Thanh Market.
If u wanna take a taxi, buy the taxi voucher just before the exit. Will cost a few dollars more but lesser headaches.
Dear vietnam 720
Apologise for getting yr nickname wrong..
Brilliant information given, thanks so much..
looking forward to be in Vietnam, HCM!!
will provide feedback, when i returned from HCM
