Most visitors have a love-hate relationship with the traffic in Vietnam. They hate it for being messy, scary and is even perceived as dangerous. But most, if not all, will tell you that crossing the Vietnam streets is one of the best experiences during their Vietnam travel.

Vietnam drivers and riders depend a lot on the body language as a guide. So the trick really is not to have any sudden movements when crossing a road in Vietnam.

How to cross a Vietnam street:

Step 1 – Look left, right and then left again (Vietnam is a left-hand drive country).

Step 2 – Step out slowly.

Step 3 – Raise one arm to make yourself look bigger, increasing visibility of you.

Step 4 – If it’s 2-way traffic, look right, left and then right again at the half way mark.

Step 5 – You can breathe out now :-)

Note: In most cases, cars will have the right of way. Always slow down and let an approaching car pass by first.

I watched Top Gear the other day and they were in Vietnam. I couldn’t believe how busy their streets are! You really do need skill to cross their streets I think.

It’s all about the body language. After a while, one will get used to it :-)

I traveled to Vietnam with my family last month, and really amazed at the traffic!! I should have checked this web site to know the way to cross the street before visiting there!

I’m uploading pictures in Vietnam. Please stop by and see my pics if you have time!

Dear Satoshi,

Yeah, the traffic in Vietnam is actually one of the best thing people remember the most :-)

Love your pix, especially the one with blue cast on Halong Bay. Great job!
