When you talk about Vietnam, the first few words that roll out of your tongue have to be conical hats, Halong Bay and the Vietnam War. And the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon, will be the best place to see the Vietnam War, albeit via explicit images. The War Remnants Museum is actually just behind the Reunification Palace. Still, here’s how to get to the War Remnants Museum…
The Museum of Ho Chi Minh City is a place to see how Saigon developed into the modern city it is today, covering a 300-year history…
Actually this ‘how to get to Reunification Palace Saigon’ guide can almost be summed up in one sentence. And that’s ‘walk 400m down the west side of the Notre Dame Cathedral’.
This picture is taken with the Diamond Shopping Centre (green building) directly behind me…
While I’ve titled this post as ‘How to get to Notre Dame Cathedral Saigon’, it should really be ‘How to get to Notre Dame Cathedral AND Saigon Post Office’. This is because the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Saigon Post Office is right next to each other. And if you are thinking this makes ‘killing 2 birds with 1 stone’, it gets even better since the Reunification Palace is also a stone throw away…
For a start, the Saigon Opera House is right next to the Caravelle Hotel. Ask around and most people will be able to point you to this tall Caravelle Hotel, leading you to the Saigon Opera House. But it’s easy to find anyway so here’s how to get to Saigon Opera House from the Ben Thanh Market.
The People’s Committee Building in Saigon is easily the most photographed building in Vietnam
The Saigon Fine Arts Museum is a classic building with modest Chinese influence and houses interesting collections in Vietnam. They include contemporary paintings by renowned Vietnamese artists and foreign artists, traditional handicrafts created by the Vietnam ethnic groups and Vietnamese antiques. Saigon Fine Arts Museum is actually opposite Le Cong Kieu Street, or Antique Street of Saigon, where you’ll find more than 60 antique shops in Ho Chi Minh City in just a 100-meters stretch of road. So kill 2 birds with one stone by heading to this 2 Vietnam travel attractions. And they are easy to find, being just opposite Ben Thanh Market.
There are about 3 ways one can get to Vung Tau from Saigon:
1. Tour bus from Sinh Cafe and other tour agencies. About 3 hours.
2. Drive or ride to Vung Tau from Saigon. About 3 hours (under 2 hours if you are a hell rider).
3. Take the hydrofoil. It is the most comfortable and fastest at just under 1.5 hours.
In this travel tip on how to get to Vung Tau from Saigon, I’ll show you where to buy the hydrofoil or ferry ticket, the timings of those ferry services and how those hydrofoils to Vung Tau feels like.
When you visit Vietnam and are in Saigon, be sure to shop at the Saigon Square Shopping Centre.
Saigon Square shopping complex houses all manner of small budget fashion boutiques, jewelry sellers, and accessories vendors. Here in Saigon Square, you’ll find up-market brands such as Longines, Boss Perfume, Chanel and D&G. In other shops you can buy eyeglasses, Crumpler Bag made in Vietnam, watches, dvd, inexpensive clothes, luggage, QuikSliver Bag and shoes. Everything from trendy casuals to work wear and from footwear to bags and purses, as well as funky and chunky jewelry are sold here at reasonably cheap prices.
Sinh cafe has always been my preferred tour agency in Vietnam. I particularly love their Sleeper Bus service. While there may be bad reviews on the internet about Sinh Cafe, they can be true sometimes yet on the other hand, it is because people book through fake or Sinh Cafe ‘copy’. There are at least more than 50 fake Sinh Cafe in Hanoi when only 2 are the real Sinh Cafe tour agency. I’ll list the real Sinh Cafe address throughout Vietnam below.
Fortunately for Saigon (for now), there aren’t as many Sinh Cafe ‘copy’ as there are in Hanoi. So here’s ‘how to get to Sinh Cafe Saigon’…
