Ben Thanh Market and the things you’ll find there.

These pictures of Ben Thanh Market are fresh from the oven, taken in March 2010. Although I can’t possibly photograph every single item on sale at Saigon’s number 1 attraction, I hope they give you a good idea of what’s available at Ben Thanh Market.

I’m breaking them down into 3 parts: Part 1 (this post) is on the clothes, Ben Thanh Market Part 2 is on the food and wet market and Ben Thanh Market Part 3 is on the handbags and accessories.

Vietnam720

Thank you Vin for the kind comment. How did u come to know Vietnam720?

Thiebo

Nice post, I’d been allready there twice, last time (July 12th) I spent more than VND 1.500.000 to buy lots of souvenir that I can’t find in my country. I didn’t try the food inside. Hope next trip I can visit other places such Cu Chi tunnel, Cho Lon and maybe take a trip at the river.
once again, nice post. thanx

Vietnam720

Thank u Thiebo for dropping by :)

ms abby

hi again, is there a nike outlet in HCM?

Vietnam720

Yes Abby, a few all over the city :)

Ms. Abby

Thanks again..can you please tell me where in particular i can find the NIke outlet in District 1. and how much should we exchange for a VND. or it is possible to pay in all stores, restaurant, small kiosk in USdollars. 1$ if converted in VND is a lot of dong.thanks

Vietnam720

Hey Abby, all big shopping centers will have Nike. Try Vincom for the newest in Saigon.

Not everywhere accept USD, especially the smaller vendors. The amount to change will depend on how much u wanna spend :)

Michelle

Hi, I’m from Malaysia, before i pay a visit to hcm, i read about your blog. Overall the trip was ok…. but dissapointed with the Ben thanh Market, the ppl overthere were very rude just like petaling street Kuala Lumpur. not fun shopping compares to Bangkok. The night market is better then the Ben Thanh Market.

Cu Chi tunnels is a best place to go, love it! The vietnamase food also good, yummy~~

Vietnam720

THank you Michelle for your input.

Yeah, Ben Thanh Market can be a little intense with all those competitions but I actually like it this way :)

Saigon has added a new shopping center- It’s the Bitexco shopping center and I’ll go check them out for you later :)

Vietnam720

Thanks Charmanie. There’s only 1 regular shop I goes to and it’s to buy lotus seed. Don’t have the address at hand but it’s not the cheapest. I go there because it’s located near to the entrance :)

Ms Abby

Hi again,

where can i buy the best vietnamese coffee bean for brewin and decaf one? and also, can you give me a walking tour from caravelle hotel, going to district 1, visiting the tourist spot and the benthan market? thanks. we are in vietnam from december 26-29..

Vietnam720

Alo Abby, go to Trung Nguyen for all your coffee needs.

As for a walking tour, your Caravelle Hotel is right in the middle of the loop. If u go clock-wise, you’ll be hitting the Saigon Square first. Anti clock-wise and it’s the Opera House follow by the Saigon Post Office.

sarah

im from brunei. how much money can we spend in the ben than market using Brunei Dollars?

sarah

which hotel that we can stay near to night market and ben than?

Cain

HAHA, nice photoshop. hehehe Great blog by the way!

Cain

OOPS, sorry, i thought the pic with the Diesel T-shirt with you logo on it was a photo shopped “Vietnam 720″ T-shirt lol would have been funny though :-D

Vietnam720

Hi Sarah,

I don’t think you can use Brunei Dollars in Ben Thanh Market. As for which hotel to stay, try the Tan Hai Long 1 Hotel (use the serach box on this site). Only 50m away :-)

Vietnam720

Still, thanks for checking out Vietnam720 Cain :-)
