Manga Cafe at 33 Vo Thi Sau Street is always filled with Vietnamese teenagers who are crazy for manga. Unlike your average drinking hole, customers here leave their shoes out front, which is customary for entering Vietnamese homes, but not usually cafes and bars. While traditional manga cafes in Japan charge customers by the hour, at Manga Cafe, guests can read and use free Internet for as long as they desire. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the staffers are very inviting. The mezzanine level is set-up like a traditional Japanese teahouse where young customers sprawl upon carpeted floors, sipping smoothies and reading mangas. Manga Cafe’s collection of international mangas total over 2,000 and include translated editions of Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk. The most famous Vietnamese manga magazine, Dat Viet Fan Club, can also be found here. The entire publication is written by Vietnamese authors and differs from Japanese manga in style and narration.
